In 3 days it will be the death date of my husband, 27 November 1962 - 23 years ago. On the 4 of December we will have been here for 20 years.

The Italy of the 1800s and Help from Sarah

The history of northern Italy in the mid-1800's is complex and has a direct influence on the way we research our Beorchia family. Much of the records center around Maniago, a city in the province of Udine. We would consider Udine a county. Opa's father, Pietro Enrico Beorchia, was born in Maniago, Udine, Italy on 24 March 1877. Udine was a province in Austria from 1815-1866. When Pietro was born, Udine had been a city in Italy for 11 short years. As we continue to research northern Italy, we may find that we look for records in Austria! Rolando Antonio Pietro Beorchia

Rolando Antonio Pietro Beorchia was born on 29 December 1905, the fourth child of Pietro Eugenio Beorchia and Ester Maddalena Giuseppina Benedet. There were nine children in his family and each child was born in a different town. Natalina (27 August 1902-Arwangen, Switzerland) Achille Lodovico (12 October 1903-Wattwille) Maria (1 September 1904-Boekslein) Rolando Antonio Pietro (29 December 1905-Naters, Switzerland) Iolanda (24 April 1908-Herten) Pietro Angelo (11 December 1909-Laufenburg) Italo (29 August 1912-Vallorba) Armando (30 May 1914-Oberwichtrach) Giannina (16 April 1918-Olten) I have had little success finding information about his life. After his birth certificate, the next record I have is from a list of prisoners from Dachau concentration camp, 300 miles from his birth town in Naters. Christine Drautz Beorchia Early Memories

In 1991, Christine Beorchia was given a book by the Mike and Jeri Beorchia family. The book was filled with prompts and Christine answered a few of the questions. Her responses are below. Christine Drautz Beorchia, 14 years old We talked and played together and were happy and content. The Sunday was kept holy; we all went to church together. Every Sunday was a cake on the table and we children got hot chocolate! Ahh! On weekdays we went into the fields to make hay and we could sit on the wagon. We would gather potatoes, apples, peaches, pears, and grapes. We had lots of fun! I knew only my mother’s father. He was very loving and kind.
